Hi everyone! Today, I want to tell you about a regular event at our house: our homemade takoyaki party. Takoyaki is famous in Osaka, but here in Hiroshima, we sometimes get an irresistible urge to make it ourselves. It’s so easy, and the kids absolutely love it – from preparation to cleanup, it goes by in a flash!
Why Make Takoyaki at Home? The Charms of DIY!
You might be thinking, “Why bother making it at home?” But homemade takoyaki has so many charms!
- Above all, it’s fun! It’s the best time, with the whole family chatting and laughing while we cook.
- Customize to your heart’s content! Beyond the classic octopus, you can add any ingredients you like, such as cheese, corn, or sausages!
- Economical! It’s much more affordable than eating out, and you can eat your fill.
- Easy to prepare and clean up! You just chop the ingredients and mix them, so it’s surprisingly little hassle.
Our Family’s Classic Takoyaki Ingredients & Secret Touches
At our house, we prepare various ingredients in addition to octopus.
- The Classic: Octopus! You just can’t start without it!
- Melty Cheese: A big hit with the kids!
- Sweet Corn Kernels: Adds a nice touch of sweetness.
- Mini Sausages: A guaranteed favorite.
Everyone Joins In! Fun Memories
Our kids split up into roles: one is in charge of pouring the batter, and the other is the flipper. They always tackle their tasks with serious faces. Flipping them requires quite a bit of concentration, and when they succeed, there are big cheers of “Yay!” (laughs). Even if we burn some or they turn out a bit misshapen, it’s all part of the fun. Takoyaki, eaten with the whole family laughing together, has a truly special taste.
