There is a video I’ve been playing on repeat lately while working or commuting. It’s the Boiler Room set by “Minna no Kimochi,” a rave crew that has been standing out in the Tokyo club scene.
They performed in the session curated by the rapper Tohji, and the content was truly fantastic.
The set is interesting from start to finish, but what I strongly want to recommend is the second half of the mix.
The set shifts into a very straight, euphoric trance sound as it progresses. This development hit the spot for me.
That pure energy devoid of logic, and the celebratory feeling of going higher and higher—which filled the floors back then—feels vividly revived in this modern Boiler Room set.
It feels “nostalgic,” but certainly not just retro. Perhaps it moves me so much because they are reconstructing the pure power that trance had back then with a contemporary sensibility.
A Must-Listen for Music Lovers
For the generation that knows the club scene of that era, there is a nostalgia that makes you think, “This is what I’ve been waiting for!” For the generation that doesn’t, I think it will come as a fresh shock.
If you haven’t heard it yet, please take the time to experience this dramatic progression. It is a wonderful musical experience.
